Install & Update

GDAT 4 runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Pick your platform below, install, then open or create a database. GDAT 4 coexists with the classic (Xojo) GDAT — both can be installed at once and read the same database, so you can move over at your own pace.

Download for Linux

macOS

  1. Open the downloaded gdat4-mac.dmg.
  2. Drag GDAT 4 into your Applications folder.
  3. Launch it from Applications. The first time, macOS may warn that it was downloaded from the internet — click Open to confirm. (If Gatekeeper blocks it, right-click the app and choose Open, then Open again.)

Windows

  1. Run the downloaded gdat4-win.msi.
  2. Follow the installer prompts, then launch GDAT 4 from the Start menu.
SmartScreen “unknown publisher”. Windows may show a blue “Windows protected your PC” SmartScreen dialog because the installer is not yet signed with a commercial certificate. This is expected. To continue, click More info, then Run anyway. If you don't see “More info,” your organization may block unsigned installers — contact whoever manages the PC.

Linux

  1. Download gdat4-linux.AppImage.
  2. Make it executable — in a terminal: chmod +x gdat4-linux.AppImage (or, in your file manager, Properties → Permissions → Allow executing file as program).
  3. Double-click it, or run ./gdat4-linux.AppImage.

Updating

To update, download the latest installer for your platform from the links above and install it over the existing copy. Your databases are separate files and are never touched by an update — but a backup before any major change is always good practice.

Coexists with classic GDAT. Installing GDAT 4 does not remove or change the classic app. Both open the same .gdat database. GDAT 4 requires a v3 database; if you open an older database it will tell you so.
